What is White Privilege?

Most whites will deny that white privilege exists. In fact most whites will only look at it from the view of finances. They do not look at the true extent of what white privilege is. It does indeed exist, and it won't be going away for a very long time because the reality is, whites like that privilege.

The privilege isn't necessarily the financial gains your family may have gotten from slavery or cheap labor (such as sharecropping) all done on the backs of black people. But the privilege comes from being in a majority.

I will only mention a few as the list can get extensive. Some of the privleges are ease from discrimination. You do not have to worry about being followed in a store (even though studies have shown whites shoplift more than blacks, it is blacks who are often hounded more and accused of shoplifting than whites). You do not have to worry about driving while black, or being accused of committing some convenient store robbery just because you share the same skin color as the culprit or because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

White people can trust the police, the police serve whites, they do not serve blacks. Blacks have a very valid reason in having very little trust in the police.

Whites are more likely to get paid more and hired more, in fact in one study they had 2 men with the same experience, the white men who had a record was hired over the black man with no jail record.

Blacks are still treated like second class citizens. It is shown through the court system just how true that is.

Blacks were forced to sacrifice their happines for that of whites. Whites still continue such happiness through their privelege. That privelege will never disappear, even though it may be slightly hindered by your own family's finances or how you dress or talk, for the most part you will never lose majority of it.

Things such as Affirmative action does not even bring blacks remotely close to what whites have, and therefore whites have no right to complain about it. Whites take their place in America for granted, one can only hope they lose it and get to see what life is really like for blacks. Its not easy, the fact is I don't think whites could survive what they put blacks through because whites never had to really experience turmoil as they were too busy torturing people and making them suffer.
