At least admit you are just selfish

I was watching the 71st Academy Awards clip of Elia Kazan, who sold out other people he was apart of the communist party with to the HUAC. When he was honored with an award, some people like Ed Harris refused to stand up give him applause, while others like Spielberg just sat but clapped. Some of the claps were unenthusiastic.

There is a reason I hate honoring people for achievements, we always try to look past or somehow rationalize their wrongs as a human being. The same happened to John Wayne, Charles Lindbergh, Walt Disney, and Henry Ford, all were horrible human beings, but had achievements. With white people, they prefer to rationalize the wrongs they did so they can make it okay to honor and idolize these people, while the victims of these horrid people-people of color and Jewish people- have to look realistically at these people and know that they're achievements are no more worth honoring considering their lowly human nature.

Elia Kazan, essentially threw other people under the bus to save his own ass. He didn't want to be blacklisted. But the thing is later on he claimed he really did it because he though "communism was bad and these people should be exposed". But considering at first he refused to reveal anyone but later did only shows that he didn't care at all about communism, he just wanted to save his own butt because he was once apart of the communist party and the HUAC was going to blacklist him if he didn't give any names.

Although the names he gave were already on the HUAC's blacklist, the fact that he would sell people out and then lie about why to cover up the fact that he did it for his own selfish purposes, he definitely didn't deserve to be honored.

Maybe that is why these award ceremonies are so useless and meaningless...should we really be honoring one's achievements with no regard to the creature of a person one calls them human that they are?

The least that man could have done was to admit he only did it because he wanted to save his own ass.

We are the kind of society that does that. That would throw someone under the bus if it benefits us. We are selfish by nature. We are all cold-hearted people.

Some say that when you join groups like the communist party, then you should prepare to let your identity be known. People like Kazan prove that you are better off working alone on things. You really can't trust people.

When I was watching Thelma and Louise, the only thing I could think was how stupid Louise must be for not abandoning Thelma after all the trouble she got her in.

But in the end, admit you are selfish rather than try to excuse a wrongful act.
