In a mixed world, would racism exist?

You often hear mono-racial people who support interracial relationships boast the idea that "mixed kids are the future". Some have even gone as far to say that once everyone is mixed, racism will cease to exist.

But is this true or is this just wishful thinking?

For starters its going to take many centuries before America even gets to a point where it has a mixed majority. America may not even exist by then because it may be dismantled by its own racism and ignorance.

But in order for racism to thrive, there always has to be a distinct group, not necessarily in the majority (as South Africa proved through the Apartheid), but a powerful distinct group nonethless.

This group has to have enough power that they can control the media, entertainment, and anything else mainstream. Through having that control they can be biased in their own favor.

When you turn on the tv, you see whiteness. When you open a mainstream magazine, you see whiteness. When you go to countries like Japan and China and India you see countries that praise and favor whiteness because that is what they are exposed to. Those with power can and do ignore those without it.

But racism thrives off of the sense of superiority over others. It takes the "I am better than you" argument a step further by involving race and features (such as nose and hair).

So could racism exist amongst a society with people who are biracial? Yes.

You see, those who say no more than likely were only thinking of one mixed group, and on top of that they were probably thinking all mixed people look the same.

That is where you run into problems.

You see 10 years ago "biracial" meant black/white by default. Now there are other mixes, and even though most still think or assume black/white when they hear "biracial", the Mulatto mix no longer gets to own the word "biracial"....its only a matter of time before they come up with names for all these mixes.

But in a society of biracial people, you would have different mixes hating on each other for simply being different mixes. Its unknown who would have the most power...it could be Mulattoes for they have the longest mix history in the United States or it could be Eurasian because there is alot of them. But numbers don't mean anything. It all comes down to who has most power to control society.

Besides racism directed at one another for being of another mix, there will still be colorism issues within each mixed group. For mulattoes the denote biracial mix is having light brown skin and curly hair. But what if one strays from what is considered the "biracial norm" within their own group?

You have biracials like Jennifer Beals who looks white. And then you have the biracials of Karyn Parson's and Lisa Bonet's look. Parson has the more reddish brownish look while Bonet has the more yellowish brown look. Then you have biracials that look black.

I remember in a comment section on a video of Tyra, many where saying this one girl is not biracial because she looks flat out black. She was dark skinned. The episode was about hating half your side, and she hated her black side. Everyone kept saying her mother must have lied to her. But while that could be true, the reality is, it most likely isn't. Based on the genes of each parents, one can come out with little blackness visible while others can come out with extreme blackness visible.

For me, while I do have the typical light brown skin found in biracials, I heavily took after my father's black genes.

So there will always be that divide simply because racism goes hand in hand with having power and control.

I believe that if our world was diverse in all areas there would be no racism. Racism comes about when people single you out because you are different and maybe not what they are use too. =]
