The Majority-Minority Complex (aka The Wheel is Always Turning)

I may have done a post on this before, but whatever, I guess I will do one again.

The majority-minority complex is an interesting phenomenon. Its when you are part of the majority or minority of something, and when you find yourself in a situation where you are the opposite, you find yourself wanting to change the rules.

case in point: If you are a Christian, you are currently part of a majority in the US. Because of this you are more than likely okay with pushing your beliefs down non-Christians. But if the wheel turns and Christianity became a minority and something else became the majority, you would object to them treating you the exact same way you treated them.

An example from the minority point. Being black in America, you are subjected to the racial hatred and ignorance of the white majority. But in a few rare instances a black person becomes part of a majority by being Christian or by being against gay rights. In this case, sometimes getting to be a part of that rare joy that comes with being in a majority makes you forget what its like being a minority and you end up doing to others what you always hated others doing to you. In a sense, you get to experience just how easy it is to ignore other peoples struggles because you are in a majority where you don't have to struggle.

I gave the Majority-Minority complex the nickname "the wheel is always turning" because its supposed to mean that one should be careful about how they play out their stint as the majority cause the wheel is always turning and one day you could be in the minority and you don't want the treatment you gave to others.

But its interesting how people don't mind doling out tyrannical and hateful behavior towards others, but if you were to reverse it all of a sudden its wrong. There is a reason people say "treat others the way you would want to be treated", so one could avoid such behaviors like this in the first place. If people seriously followed the Golden rule, there would be no hatred!
