The White hero is the protagonist of a movie who is supposed to champion a minority race.
Examples include: Pocahontas and Freedom Writers.
The story is told from the perspective of the white person, with them immersing themselves into the minority race culture.
Only problem is they never fully can immerse, because they are white, they have the benefit of always going back to the white world as if nothing ever happened.
You rarely see racial movies done in the perspective of a black person, and when you do, its usually not a box office success, mostly because its directed by a black person (and we all know its impossible for blacks to be famous directors).
Often the White hero is the bridge between their own and not their own. Think along the lines of having to have a white person declare that racism against blacks is increasing. Whites would only believe it and listen when it comes from a white person.
Reasons they do this:
- White people are not capable of understanding another race's perspective. Its the truth, if they were to make Freedom Writers from the perspective of the students only with the teacher just being a teacher and nothing more, whites wouldn't understand it at all, heck they wouldn't understand it if the teacher was black instead of white. White people grow up with the privilege of ignoring reality. It is also because of this privilege whites would never even think of making it in the perspective of a non-white.
- Black movies are not a financial success. This is the truth, if there isn't a white person billed first on a movie, whites will not go to it. The only exception ever made was Will Smith. There is a reason you never see Will Smith with a black woman in a movie.
- Whites are the majority race. Because of this Hollywood cares more about white money than other money. Hollywood wants the maximum amount, even if this means they insult minority groups. Hollywood has a long history of offensive movies that top the charts as the worst movies (Birth of a Nation and Gone With the Wind to name a few).
- Whites get offended too easily. Because they cannot understand racial issues from the perspective of the minority themselves, they easily would misinterpret something as an attack on their white being. They live outside of reality, in their fantasy world, where everyday they justify racist acts to help themselves sleep at night. To them, if a movie that is about race is from the perspective of a black person, they would accuse them the "race card" and consider the movie nonsense. Using a white person as a bridge between two races is pretty logical when you look at it like this.
In the end, if you want to stay away from the White Hero, the best way to do it is to make sure the movie you are watching has no racial overtones or undertones involved.
